Auburn University's American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Student Chapter established a service learning project initiative to connect students with the community. St. Dunstan Episcopal Church approached Auburn for landscape design consulting needs to renovate the church yard.  St. Dunstan members wanted to create a more private sanctuary for student groups residents and create a more welcoming space for wedding and events.  The ASLA student chapter leaders met with board members to flesh out the congregation's wish list and worked through concepts and completed a design concept.  The design ultimately reflects the concept of the traditional English "Close" historically a community space to help better connect residential and church life.  The design concept was used for fundraising purposes for the new landscape.
